Overlooking someone Else’s yard, as spring approaches, just might give a person the feeling that they have something you don’t have.  If that one thing is a yard accent, that feeling can easily be modified.  That one something special could change the complexity of your attitude.  For example, a pair of colorful flamingos or some garden plaque, a gorgeous bird house or feeder, perhaps a weather vane.  You see, it doesn’t have to be expensive to provide eye appeal and make it greener on your side.

Finding something to enhance your yard will also invite wildlife and that in itself will improve the outdoor setting.  Decorative home accents are as invigorating outdoors and they are indoors.  Don’t be afraid to add something to a fence, or a post, or anything that can make you feel better, relaxed and release stress.  Personal choice is prevalent.  Be proud of your decision and don’t be afraid to experiment.  Like the inside of your home, the outside can also be altered to suite your taste and enjoyment.  Have fun!

Perhaps just optimistic but we’re already thinking garden decor.  Outdoor accents are surprising functional because they don’t warrant the same criteria as indoor accents.  The beauty of a garden accent is that it can an eye catching feature that we love all year around and the variety will fit our budget.  For instance, whimsical statues, frogs on swings, outdoor water fountain structures, table chairs, or  windmills to name just a few can all add style and design and pleasure not only in our garden but also as an overall yard accent.

Wall plaques can also be used in various fashion statements.  Many households place them on their homes, decks, or home made posts of some kind highlighting their names, initials, a personal narrative of some kind providing visual appeal to themselves and others. Eventually, as weather permits,  lattices, yard benches, wrought iron accents will all add a touch of class.  A Victorian garden – think of the possibilities!

People love to enjoy the melodious sounds of wind blowing through the trees and ultimately affecting our deck accents to include windsocks, spinners and wind chimes.  Garden or deck wind chimes can be an excellent way to provide character and charisma to your personal space, adding solace to otherwise a busy environment.  Tranquil sounds plus pleasant eye appeal can help relieve tension and calm the heart.

They come in a variety of fashions from the most common metal to wood, bone, bamboo or stones.  All of which create these beautiful harmonious sounds.  The higher quality chimes can be constructed to bring out loud pristine harmonic tones.  Depending upon which construction material is purchased will produce a very different tone; therefore, adding a personal touch to every household.  Also, the length of the hanging material will affect the sound.  For example, with metal chimes, the longer the metal chime, the deeper the tone.  Whereas, the shorter it is, it could invariably create of higher pitched tone.  In addition, hard metals like steel and aluminum will create sharp tones, whereas softer metals like copper will produce softer, mellow tones.  Ceramic or glass ones are also aesthetically pleasing and are beautiful decorative pieces as well.  If the sounds of rain or perhaps rolling thunder are what your like, than bamboo might be your selection.  Yes, we do have options and wind chimes could be the accent we are looking for to create the perfect mood sensation.

12687Most of the time garden decor might consist of different accessories such as bird feeders, fountains, vases; however, what about adding  a creative and fun element to your indoor gardening and garden accent experience by utilizing a whimsical over-sized tea cup and saucer as a planter. That’s just one idea to accentuate the beauty of your indoor plants and flowers.  The imagination is a wonderful tool during some dreary days of winter to add color and tasteful elegance to kick it up a notch or two.

Can you imagine using such a planter design containing herbs in your kitchen?  Can you smell the lavender radiating under a south window as you tenderly pamper it.  At some time it can be moved in the bedroom or living room and enjoyed for some time.  Not only have we added a beautiful herb of some kind or even something else like a lush green fern but we also added a picturesque accent to our home.

decorative birdhouses

When people buy a new house, they typically focus their creative sensibilities on renovating the interior design. That approach doesn’t necessarily make sense as most people who pass by the home will never see the inside. It’s the exterior décor that will become a topic of conversation; the design elements outside the house create a valuable first impression.

Rather than foisting a foreign theme on the home, take advantage of its natural design attributes and the setting. If you live near a large body of water, try incorporating a nautical theme. Decorative birdhouses shaped like lighthouses are a particularly charming touch. You could also play up the maritime décor by propping an old rowboat against the side of the garage and putting a pair of crossed paddles above the main entryway.

garden swing

If you’re blessed with a green thumb but very little in the way of design sense, there’s no need to fret. The most stunning gardens utilize flowers as the star of the show. Your blooms and blossoms should top the marquee, but it doesn’t hurt to throw in a garden accent or two – just to tie the whole thing together. Try to find items that don’t detract too much attention from your roses and gardenias.

If you’ve tried a decorative birdbath and found that it hogs the spotlight, try adding a simple yard swing. These handsome wooden pieces add function to an otherwise aesthetically pleasing part of the property. Swings lend the garden a lived-in quality, which will make guests feel more cozy and welcome when they’re admiring the foliage.

Creating a Sensual Garden Experience

It’s important to have a garden that addresses the needs of all the senses, and while this might seem difficult on face, with a few extra plants and garden accents, it’s feasible for homeowners on even the most modest budget to have a beautiful and sensual garden. We’ll start with sight, as this is the easiest sense to address in a garden. Make sure to have lots of flowering shrubs and plants, and this sense is taken care of no problem. Sound can be a little bit more difficult, but with some wind chimes and an outdoor fountain, it’s possible to create a tranquil atmosphere without significant change. To address our senses of smell, make sure to have an herb garden near the kitchen window that will waft into the home on the cool summer breeze. Taste can be a difficult sense, however, a few fruits and vegetables, like raspberries and peas, can make enhance a garden’s character. For touch, make sure to choose lots of stone and metal garden decor; a fountain is perfect for this.

With all five senses addressed, a garden becomes a more inviting environment for owners and guests.

Leisure Time on the Deck or Patio

Once summer arrives, millions of people around the world flock to their decks and patios to enjoy food, family, and friends while appreciating the sunshine and the outdoors. Just before summer begins, it’s a great idea to perform some updates to the deck or patio with a new coat of finish or paint, furniture, and accents. Outdoor living has never been more popular, and there are hundreds of fun new products for the deck and patio that become available in spring. For great outdoor cooking, be sure to check out stainless steel barbeques and outdoor grills, some of which are portable while others require installation. For a little warmth to ward off the nighttime chill, consider brass fire pits and outdoor furnaces. Deck accents could be wrought iron shelves, wind chimes, and fountains, while patio accents might include end tables, planters, and beverage coolers. These accents are sure to bring character to a deck or patio and enrich the atmosphere.

Make sure to have lots of comfortable seating whether on the deck or patio, and for the deck, homeowners might even consider installing wood benches. Make sure to take in seat cushions and roll up umbrellas in the event of rain, as this can ruin the furniture.
